Bed and Breakfasts work in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City draws visitors for the Wasatch slopes, the convention calendar downtown and the temple and temple square traffic, and a share of those visitors search for a bed and breakfast rather than a chain hotel. The trade here is mostly owner operators running a handful of rooms in the older houses around the Avenues, the Marmalade district and South Temple, with a smaller number of larger guest houses near the university. Paid search on room and stay terms in this market is carried by the hotel chains and the booking platforms, which bid on the broad city terms, while the smaller houses pick up the specific searches for a neighbourhood, a type of room or a reason to stay. The demand is there for a house that shows up on the searches people make when they have already decided against a hotel.
