Water Treatment work in New York
New York runs on a mix of public water and private wells, and the treatment work follows that split. In the five boroughs the calls come from co-ops, brownstones and rental buildings dealing with old pipes, hardness and the taste of municipal supply. North and west of the city, in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and the Hudson Valley, private wells and septic systems put a different set of searches in front of treatment firms: testing, filtration, softening, iron and sulfur removal. Long Island adds its own demand, with well water and a large stock of single family homes. The firms competing for this work range from small owner operators who answer their own phones to regional companies with crews on the road. Franchises have a presence, particularly in filtration and softener installation, but the trade in New York is still carried heavily by independent businesses that live on local reputation. That reputation now starts with a search, and the searches are specific: a town name, a water problem, a system type.
