Squarespace

Google Ranking Automation for Squarespace

HaloSEO connects to your Squarespace site, researches keywords, writes and publishes posts, links them, and builds backlinks. This page explains how the connection works and what to expect.

How HaloSEO connects to Squarespace

You connect through the Squarespace API using an API key you create in your Squarespace account settings. The key gives HaloSEO permission to read your site structure and publish blog posts to the blog collection you choose. It does not give access to your billing, your store orders, your domains or your account settings. You can revoke the key in Squarespace at any time, and publishing stops as soon as you do.

What a published post looks like on your site

Posts are published as native Squarespace blog items. They use your site's own theme, fonts, colours and layout, so they look like every other post you have written. HaloSEO fills the title, body, excerpt, tags and SEO fields that Squarespace exposes. Images are uploaded to your Squarespace asset library. Nothing is rendered in a separate template or an iframe.

What happens on Squarespace that does not happen elsewhere

Squarespace handles URL slugs and redirects in its own way, so HaloSEO reads the slug Squarespace assigns rather than forcing one. Squarespace also builds its sitemap automatically, so new posts are submitted to Google through that sitemap without extra steps. Internal links are written against your live Squarespace page URLs, which means they point at the pages that actually exist on your site.

What breaks, and what happens when it does

The most common failure is an expired or revoked API key. When that happens, publishing pauses and HaloSEO flags the connection in your dashboard. It does not retry in a loop and it does not publish partial posts. If a post fails to publish, it stays in draft inside HaloSEO and you can retry it. If Squarespace changes its API, publishing pauses until we update the integration, and you are told in the dashboard.

Who this is not right for

This is not right for you if you want to approve every word before it goes live. HaloSEO publishes on a schedule. It is also not right for sites that are not on Squarespace, or for Squarespace sites where you cannot create an API key. If you want a tool that only suggests drafts for you to copy across by hand, this is not that tool.
