WordPress Integration for Squarespace

Squarespace and WordPress are different platforms, and HaloSEO connects to each in a different way. This page explains what the WordPress integration does, and what it means if your site runs on Squarespace.

How HaloSEO connects to Squarespace

HaloSEO connects to Squarespace through the Squarespace API. You authorise the connection from your HaloSEO account and approve access in Squarespace. HaloSEO needs permission to read your site structure and to create and edit blog posts. It does not need access to your billing, your store orders or your domain settings. You can revoke access from Squarespace at any time, and the connection stops.

What a published post looks like on Squarespace

HaloSEO publishes into your Squarespace blog collection. The post uses your site's own theme, fonts, colours and layout. Headings, images, lists and internal links follow the same styles as posts you write yourself. There is no HaloSEO badge and no separate template. Readers see a normal post on your normal site. You can edit any post in the Squarespace editor after it goes live.

What happens on Squarespace that does not happen elsewhere

Squarespace handles URLs and sitemaps for you, so HaloSEO works within those rules rather than rewriting them. Blog posts sit in a collection with its own URL pattern, and HaloSEO follows that pattern. Squarespace also controls how tags and categories appear, so HaloSEO uses the tags and categories your site already has. On WordPress you can change permalinks and templates directly. On Squarespace you cannot, so HaloSEO adapts to the platform instead of asking you to change it.

What breaks, and what happens when it does

The connection can fail if you change your Squarespace plan, revoke access, or if Squarespace changes its API. When a publish fails, HaloSEO marks the post as failed in your dashboard and retries. It does not publish a partial post. If the connection stays down, HaloSEO pauses publishing and emails you. Nothing is lost. Drafts stay in HaloSEO until the connection works again, and you can publish them by hand in the meantime.

Who this is not right for

This is not right for you if you want HaloSEO to change your Squarespace design, edit pages outside the blog, or manage your store. It does not do those things. It is also not right for you if you need every post reviewed by a person before it goes live, unless you turn on review mode first. And if you run WordPress, read the WordPress integration page instead, because the setup and the limits are different.
