Competitor Tracking for Squarespace

HaloSEO connects to your Squarespace site, researches the keywords your competitors rank for, and publishes posts in your own theme. Here is how the connection works and what to expect.

How HaloSEO connects to Squarespace

You connect your Squarespace site from the HaloSEO dashboard. Squarespace uses an API key rather than a password login, so you create a key in your Squarespace settings and paste it into HaloSEO. The key gives HaloSEO permission to read your site structure and to create and update blog posts. It does not give access to your billing, your store orders or your domain settings. You can revoke the key in Squarespace at any time, and HaloSEO loses access the moment you do.

What a published post looks like on your site

HaloSEO publishes through the Squarespace blog collection, so every post uses your theme. Headings, body text, images and links take on the fonts, colours and spacing you already set. There is no separate HaloSEO template and no widget to embed. The post appears in your blog list, in your RSS feed and in your sitemap the same way a post you wrote yourself would. You can edit any published post in the Squarespace editor, and your edits stay.

What happens on Squarespace that does not happen elsewhere

Squarespace handles URLs in its own way. Blog posts get a path built from the collection and the post slug, and changing the slug later breaks the old link unless you set a redirect. HaloSEO writes slugs once and does not change them after publishing. Squarespace also caches pages on its own schedule, so a new post can take a short while to appear to visitors. HaloSEO does not fight that cache. It publishes, then checks the live URL later and reports what it finds.

What breaks, and what happens when it does

The most common failure is an expired or revoked API key. When that happens, publishing stops and HaloSEO marks the affected posts as failed in the dashboard. It does not retry in a loop and it does not post twice. You create a new key, paste it in, and the queue resumes. A second failure is a slug collision, where a post title matches an existing page. HaloSEO appends a suffix rather than overwrite the page. If Squarespace rejects a publish for any other reason, the error text from Squarespace is shown to you as it was returned.

Who this is not right for

This is not right for you if your Squarespace site is a single page with no blog collection, because there is nowhere for posts to go. It is not right for you if you want to approve every word before it goes live, since HaloSEO publishes on a schedule. It is also not right for you if you need posts in more than one language on the same site, because the Squarespace blog does not separate them cleanly.
