Custom API

Content Calendar for Custom API

HaloSEO holds the plan of what gets published and when. On a Custom API site, that plan is built from keyword research and pushed through your own endpoints.

How HaloSEO connects to Custom API

You give HaloSEO an API base URL and a credential for it. The credential needs permission to create and update posts, read your categories and tags, and upload media. Nothing else is required. HaloSEO calls your endpoints to publish, so your own validation and your own fields still apply. If your API needs a token refresh, give us a credential that can refresh itself, or a long lived token.

What the published post looks like on your site

The post is created through your API as a normal post in your own content type. It renders in your theme, with your templates, your header, your footer and your styles. HaloSEO does not ship a front end and does not override your layout. Images are uploaded through your media endpoint and attached the way your site expects. Internal links are written into the body as links to your own URLs.

What happens on Custom API that does not happen elsewhere

Your API decides what a post is. If your content model has required fields, HaloSEO fills them from the plan. If your API rejects a payload, the reason comes back to us and we adjust. Scheduling runs through your own publish dates, so your site stays the source of truth for what is live. You can reorder the calendar or push a subject to the front, and the next call to your API reflects that order.

What breaks, and what happens when it does

If your API is down, the publish call fails and the item stays in the calendar as not published. HaloSEO retries. If a credential expires or is revoked, publishing stops and the failure is reported to you. If your API changes a field name or a required value, the call fails with your error and we do not guess. Nothing is marked published until your API confirms it.

Who this is not right for

This is not right for you if you do not have an API, or if you cannot give a credential that creates posts. It is also not right for you if you want to approve every post by hand before it goes live, because the calendar is built from keyword research and does not wait to be filled in. If you need a person to write each post, use a writer.
